All righie! This was tutorial numero uno and it was all about Information Technology and Ethical Issues!
Information Technology is a pretty massive subject really.. but good old dictionary.com defines it as
"The technology involved with the transmission and storage of information, especially the development, installation, implementation, and management of computer systems within companies, universities, and other organizations"
So yeh..its really just anything to do with computers, me thinks.
This kind of IT has become incredibly commonplace in today's society, it is pretty much a necessity!!! if you don't have a computer of some sort you are living in the dark ages!
I rekon im pretty "tech savvy" (yuck.. i dont like that expression!) i love new technology and learning new stuff doesn't frustrate me
During my own fieldwork experience, IT were used but werent a necessity. Notes were all written by hand and documents were stored in a lockable filling cabinet.
There is most definitely ethical issues that arise from using IT in practice, however these can be managed by adequate security when it comes to file storage (such as client notes and photos) on computers.
A definition of computer ethics is
"a branch of practical philosophy which deals with how computing professionals should make decisions regarding professional and social conduct"
Dictionary.com defines Intellectual property as
"A product of the intellect that has commercial value, including copyrighted property such as literary or artistic works, and ideational property, such as patents, appellations of origin, business methods, and industrial processes."
Social Justice has also been defined by dictionary.com as
"the distribution of advantages and disadvantages within a society"
finally dictionary.com defines informed consent as
"Consent by a patient to a surgical or medical procedure or participation in a clinical study after achieving an understanding of the relevant medical facts and the risks involved."
So in a nutshell i rekon that understanding of ITC (Information Technology Communication) is very important. As if you are planning to use any technology in practice or your daily lives and neglect to address the associated ethical issues that arise you can end up in deep legal trouble!
And so my first post comes to an end..i hope you enjoyed it my cyber readers!
